Another Marathon, Another Victory

11/17/2010

Lowell Ladd, Head Coach and Founder of 2L Coaching Services, returned to the Harrisburg Marathon where he won in 2008 and again bested the field to win the marathon. Running in his 12th marathon, Ladd was able to finish almost ten minutes ahead of the second place finisher and also best all the relay teams in the event, finishing in 2:33:21.

From the start, a pack quickly formed of five runners, including Ladd. Two relay teams and two other individual runners settled into a steady pace. After seven miles, it was down to a race between Ladd, another individual, and a relay team. The three passed through the half way point in 1:16:50. At mile 15, the relay team increase the pace and only Ladd was able to follow the increased tempo. Ladd lost ground to the relay team just before their second exchange, but caught the team by 18 miles and pulled away at that point. It was a solo effort the last 8 miles for Ladd before the final finish on City Island.

It ended up being a slight negative split effort for the veteran marathon runner, who improved on his winning time at the same event from two years earlier by about a minute. This was the second marathon win for Ladd, who won the inaugural 1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut Marathon in Reading, PA back in June.
