Ladd's O-Town Runners Capture Team Title in Philly 1/2 Marathon

09/19/2010

At this morning's ING Philadelphia Half Marathon a team comprised mainly of athletes coached by Lowell Ladd won the Club Division team championship.

Team captain Curtis McWilliams decided that it would be a nice twist on personal racing goals to pull together enough friends to meet the requirement of ten members and signed up the group under the label "Ladd's O-Town Runners." The members of the group have all belonged to the same running circle in Orlando, Florida. While some have relocated to other states, they all kept in close touch and decided to join up and race together in the re-vamped team competition. In the past, teams could enter as few as three runners. For this year, the minimum number was raised to ten although the first three finishes scored to determine the winning team. The combined time of 4:09:02 was over six minutes ahead of the second place team.

Leading the charge for the group was JP Royston, who lowered his personal best by a minute to finish in 1:17:08. Next across the line for Ladd's O-Town Runners was McWilliams. His 1:23:17 was slightly off his personal best, but was good enough to place him 2nd in the 55-59 age group. The final scorer for the group was Eric Jacob in 1:24:10. In addition to the three scorers, four other members of the team are also currently coached by Lowell Ladd.
